[Spolier] Question about tom

So tom takes his bike goes after Lars Pierson to confront him. I can understand the behavior given that he wasn't the killer and didn't know the killer at the same time. But both the things are not as he was the killer himself.

So why the heck did he go up the mountain? It feels like an excuse to add an extra episode.
