Not funny but enjoyable

Before people flip out I'd like to start by saying that I love everything Chris Lilley has done so far and I'm a massive fan. He is extremely talented but this was not very good. I only laughed twice in the whole 6 episodes. It was still really interesting though, I was never bored. Bring on Mr G I say.

I found lots of it funny, but I guess it just depends on personal taste. Really enjoyed the whole series (Loved the Angry Boys reference in episode 4 (won't spoil it for anyone, but the question he's asked when he's first in the place that also appears in AB!)

I didn't find this funny either. I didn't even laugh once. It has a more serious tone to it. The jokes are pretty old and tired.

This whole serious was not bad, but I wanted more. Both Ja'mie and Jonah were much funnier in SMH.

I think Mr. G has more potential to be funny as a stand alone series. But with that said, I hope Chris does something new.

I thought it was hilarious. I'm a big fan of childish humor though so that would probably be the reason. Where the story went was pretty interesting, too. I liked it a lot more than all his previous shows. Besides Summer Heights High of course.

I didn't find it laugh-out-loud funny, but I think you're not supposed to find what Jonah says funny. But I really liked it as a drama. I felt kinda sorry for Jonah and the other FOBs a lot. And I liked Kool Kris and Mr Joseph (and the prison guard) and how they saw that Jonah was just insecure and cared for him.

I feel that same about Ricky Gervais' show Derek, that's always marketed as a comedy but it's deeper than that.

I would agree that I really enjoyed it as more of a drama but Chris Lilley kept saying on social media that it's the funniest show he's done yet. Simply not true. Summer Heights High was his best in my opinion.

I thought it was really good and I laughed many times, I am more of a fan of Jonah than Ja'mie, so I was really looking forward to this.

I liked Mr Joseph, after seeing Doug Peterson from SHH try and fail to deal with Jonah, Mr Joseph was a great new angle, I loved their scenes and even though Jonah pushed Mr Joseph over the line many times, Mr Joseph never gave up. I also liked Kool Kris and how he just brushed off every insult Jonah said to him to try and help him.

It was also great having one of Jonah's brothers with him most of the time and seeing how Jonah looked after him and wanted to help make Moses' singing dream come true. Shame we didn't really see the rest of his brothers, it was also a shame that his father was recast, although the guy playing him in Jonah from Tonga was good, the actor in SHH was a lot better.

It also had a better end than Ja'mie, after all the 'ranga' jokes, I liked that Jonah and the 'rangas' got over their war on each other. But I thought Graydon was a bit over the top in trying to make friends with Jonah, that was weird to watch.

I would have liked to have more scenes at the school though.

Look at his little face, it's almost as if he understands.

Not many laughs but kept me entertained. Not his best.

I thought it was enjoyable, but in comparison to Chris' previous series it felt pretty poor. I'm glad I watched the whole series in a day, it would have felt like a real chore having to wait a week between each episode, and I'm not convinced I would have substained the whole 6 weeks.

Watching this and thinking back to the Ja'mie series, which I enjoyed a lot more but still felt vastly inferior to SMH and AB I can't help feeling like he should have just done a second Summer Heights series (obviously with a different name) focusing on the 3 characthers all doing their own things at different schools.

Chris' series clearly work a lot better when there's a mix of characthers. These Jonah and Ja'mie series have proved that.

reply

I agree. Much more enjoyable when theres a mix of characters. It becomes really tiresome with just the one character.

reply

The only good thing was Mr. Joseph and Melody.

reply

I thought it was very funny throughout every episode. On the other hand I didn't find "Ja'mie: Private Schoolgirl" to be funny at all.

I found Ja'mie enjoyable, but not funny.
