Wants to be the next Primer

It won't succeed

reply

it has the air of primer but from the trailer it feels different

reply

lol, I came here to post the same thing. It looks like Primer's little brother that wants to live up to it's older siblings expectations. Different premise, but definitely the same tone & feel to it.

reply

This almost exactly what I came on IMDB to post. It's like it's Primers remedial half brother from its Mum's affair with Keifer Sutherland... should be retitled FLATPRIMERS.

reply

I came here to check if it was done by the same director who made Primer. Looks similar.

reply

Watched the credits, and almost gagged at the director's name - I saw Tyler P... and I though "Oh, no Tyler Perry" before reading the credits page a bit more carefully...

"...and Mrs. Taylor sure seems to use a lotta ice, whenever he's away."

Problem is: Primer was crazy physics. This is crazy esoterism.

It might be a fun Frankenstein/horror movie but all the serious business scientist talk, followed by healing death with some electricity/stem cells mumbo jumbo that sounds like a euphemism for "life force", seems just awful.

Did primer even succeed? Both were too low budget for me.

reply

Low budget doesn't matter much, Primer is a cult classic.

The Phoenix Project might get to cult status if the stars align for them.

reply

That would depend on by what manner of success you mean. Actually that's not wrong because yes, it succeeded in every way possible.

reply

Feels a lot more like Flatliners, no? :P

reply

I agree, feels more like Flatliners. I don't know if the guy on the table (presumably getting reanimated) is one of the experimenters, or a subject taken from a morgue. I know that Flatliners was about the guys killing themselves, for short amount of time, and then the others bringing the person back from death, to see if there was anything on the other side. So the premise is different on that account.

reply

Like many others have already said, came here to post the same thing!! Agree with you 100% josiah.
