Burn the money

Why won't Nevison burn the money? It's brought up once early on and apparently he won't burn the money because it's illegal. So he's willing to be caught with the money and incriminated for kidnapping and other serious offenses but not willing to burn the money to protect himself from being incriminated? What?

reply

Haven't seen season 2, but why would he need to burn the money? Can't he bury it somewhere? That's not illegal.

reply

Yeah I meant Kevin.

And yeah, the greed thing is true enough. It just seemed like, for a little bit anyway, that having the money at all was becoming a major liability. I can think of a few scenarios in which Kevin's possession of that money could have been used to tie him directly to the crime, I was thinking Ashley might have attempted something like this to get himself out from under the situation. Burying it would have been an idea, but if could have still been recovered somehow and traced back to him.

You mean Kevin, not Nevison I think.....

Kevin and because it is money.

reply

I never understood this part of the first series either.

reply

It's because he is greedy and therefore holds money in the highest regard, hence he could never destroy it.

reply

Plus, he's an accountant.... their lives are built on money, whether it is theirs or not. It would be like a publican pouring away a bottle of 75 year old Highland Park. Sacrilege.

Bingo -- You hit the nail on the head. When I read the first question in this tree, I said well duh, he's an accountant. I don't know if it is actually based on greed but on his training in accounting for assets. It's part of the nature of accountancy.
