Mother's funeral

Just wondering if the UK pays for people's funerals? Tommy's mother had a nice send-off. I guess he got his girlfriends to contribute the money, if the government didn't pay. I know in the US if a prisoner wants to go to a funeral, he has to pay for the service. I got that from The Good Wife when Alicia had to pay for Peter to visit his mother in the hospital. US social security doesn't pay but $255.00 toward a funeral and then the county will do the minimum for disposal. I am assuming Tommy's mother didn't have any money. Also would like to add that I hope we have seen the last of Tommy Lee Royce who is residing in a very cozy cell, but that doesn't seem likely.

He was in contact with a few other women so perhaps there is some future mayhem from one of them.

believe it or not the council will often pay, quite a lot of money gets spent / wasted depending on your point of view on pauper's funerals in the UK where the taxpayer picks up the bill for a funeral of someone who could never afford it.

Unfortunately, like everything else here, the system is abused by many who could afford it but don't want to spend their money that is allocated to Beer 'n ciggies 'n sky.

I don't know where you got that from; my own mother died last June. We had a simple funeral (no cars, one floral arrangement, no church, no clergy) and it cost about £3,000 all told. I can quite see how that would be beyond the means of many people; in fact had it not been paid for from my mother's estate, we would have struggled ourselves to meet the cost.

... councils carried out 2,580 public health funerals in 12 months spanning 2013-14, which represents a small fraction of the 500,000 or so people who die in the UK each year.

TLR's mother's funeral looked about as basic as it could have been.

I'm the clever one; you're the potato one.

I'm guessing that she was the victim of a heinous crime there might have been enough people willing to take pity and donate, even considering what a monster her son was. Plus often some of the services are donated from the business, such as the cremation.

Additionally she may have had some other family, such as a sibling or an aunt/uncle, who wanted nothing to do with her in life because of how she lived, but would have been willing to put something toward a funeral. There were actually quite a few people there, maybe 20 or so.
