I can't believe they let that letter through

It was open so they must have read it.

Yeah, they must have read it, but sadly there would be no joined up coppering. The censors amongst the powers that be probably had no idea who Ryan was, or that he was the product of rape as Tommy was never charged with that rape. OR that the family wanted Tommy to have zero contact with Ryan, some low wage numpty probably read it, saw nothing contentious and couldn't be bothered to dig deeper.

It must have been that, as Catherine mentioned earlier in this series that there is a court order forbidden Tommy Lee from having any contact with Ryan whatsoever, which would conceivably include Ryan sending letters to him.

Knowing that, I had assumed that prison officials would have had an eye out for suspicious mail.

Considering there is a restraining order that prohibits Tommy from any contact with Ryan or his family, yes they would know of the whole thing.

He's not in jail just for two murders and kidnapping Ann Gallagher and rape. He's also in jail for kidnapping Ryan and assault on Catherine.

That ending was a lot of BS, imo. The only bad spot in a terrific season.
