Ironing the bacon - a hilarious scene in 'Still Open All Hours' S1 E3

Ironing the bacon - LOL! - a scene in 'Still Open All Hours' S1 E3:

This is a superb scene. That would have been as well performed by 'Arkwright' as it was by 'Granville'!

In fact I am wondering, from the way David Jason played the sketch, if this is! one of those sketches that D.J. has repeated from Ronnie Barker's own canon of comedy works - as an homage to his great co-star of 'Open All Hours'.

There was something in the way D.J. 'delivered' the sketch that made it look as though it might be. And 'Granville' did say in this episode that his 'uncle' had in fact taught him the bacon ironing tip.

But I can't find anything at YouTube or Google to confirm my theory that Ronnie Barker had already performed this sketch.

After all, one of the other episodes of 'Still Open All Hours' had a scene that had strong elements of an ep of its predecessor ('Open All Hours'). I will avoid creating a potential spoiler (yikes!) by saying no more than this: the repetition was justified in 'Still Open All Hours', as the opinions/ideas vocalised by the customer in that scene still ring as true today as they did 30 years ago.

So, as the sequel has already showed such homage to the initial programme, I was wondering: is this 'ironing the bacon' scene another homage i.e. has this sketch previously been performed by Ronnie Barker on TV??
