What I don’t understand about this movie (spoilers?)

This movie is currently (2022) streaming on Shudder. I thought it was excellent all around.

But here’s what I didn’t get.

Montse is this mousey whisp of a women, so why is everybody so afraid of her, especially her “sister?”

How was she able to overpower TWO women, both much bigger than her, with a couple of knitting needles?

An why didn’t La Niña save herself a lot of trouble and just go to the police when she first saw Carlos strapped to the bed?

Everybody acted as if Montse was Andre the Giant instead of Olive Oyl. Hell, even bedridden Carlos could’ve cold-cocked her while strapped in the bed!

Did I miss something?
