Bill for Veg Biryani

Didn't understand this bit. After driving the car to Thotupuzha before buying the second hand mobile hand set, he buys a plate of veg biryani on the Aug 3rd. He orders the same from the place when he stays with his family in the hotel with his family. What was the purpose?

reply

Creating an alibi that he was present there with his family on the 3rd. He keeps all the bills that he collected on the 3rd (including the one showing 4 biryaanis that he steals from someone else's table), and discards the ones he is given on the 5th. The bills have dates in them. So they become an alibi.

reply

That was later. Why did he have to collect a bill for Biryani on the day he ditched the car. The bill was for 1 person

reply

He ditched the car on the 3rd, and that same day he collected a parcel from a vegetarian restaurant and kept the bill (it says nowhere that it was for one person, we are told that he collected a parcel, which could be for 4 people). On the 5th, he sends someone else to collect a parcel from that same restaurant and when he gets the parcel at the lodge, he throws the new bill. So now he has a bill dated 3rd which he later uses as reference to his parcel order from the lodge on the 5th.

Regarding the biryanis that they eat at the restaurant itself, it would have seemed out of the ordinary if on the 3rd he would have ordered 4 biryanis all for himself, the manager would remember something like that. So he just decided to steal someone else's bill on the 3rd, and used that bill as a reference to his visit to that same restaurant with his family on the 5th.

It all makes sense.

Many thanks

There is a flaw in the whole bill concept. When asked by the police officer as to why he keeps all the bills as its a bit unusual, Georgekutty says that his is a middle class family and they keep all the bills for accounting.

At that time, if the police had asked him to at least show the bills from previous months that he has kept, he would be screwed, as he doesn't have anything to show. It would have broken his whole web of lies.

reply

He is resourceful enough to have answered that he has thrown away the bills after tallying the accounts. There is no way the police could have proved otherwise, even if they'd suspected that he was lying

reply

Do we know he was lying about that? I have several friends who actually do just that, they save all their bills and go through them at the end of each month.

reply

Simple..the biryani was tasty and he liked it a lot
