America Has Finally Rejected Ice Age

They just released box office info, and Ice Age 5 came in at #4, pathetically losing to Secret Life of Pets, which has been in theaters for three weeks, at just $7.8 million on it's first day. Here's how it compares to the other movies on their first friday

Ice Age: $13.5 million
Ice Age 2: $21.8 million
Ice Age 3: $17.2 million
Ice Age 4: $16.7 million
Ice Age 5: $7.8 million

I know Ice Age 5 will make a buttload of money in the foriegn markets, heck it's already at $135 million which is already ahead of it's $105 million budget, but this just shows that people are not watching here. Ice Age 5 will likely make around $20 million for it's opening weekend which is less then half of Contidental Drift's $46 million opening weekend, yikes.

I knew it was going to be the weakest in the series, but I wasn't expecting it to be that low.

Show these people some respect! They'll get there.

Ice Age 5 is a flop at the American box office.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/

Opened at #5 compared to the other ones which all opened at #1 and at worse Dawn of the Dinosaurs which opened at #2. It managed a dismal $21 million opening lelss then half of Ice Age 4's $46 million opening. Yikes, Blue Sky really should not have released it at this time when so many animated movies have dominated at the box office, The Secret Life of Pets, Finding Dory, etc. What's even more sad is that it couldn't even beat the second week of Ghostbusters, just sad. Though, it's already made $179 million at the foriegn box office, so I guess it doesn't matter how bad it does at the box office in America, they'll keep making the cash.

This bomb could have alienated Blue Sky Studios. Maybe it's time for these guys to do spin-off films, starting with Captain Gutt. I have a link to my idea of the film starring him here: http://iceagefanon.wikia.com/wiki/Master_of_the_Seas:_An_Ice_Age_Story

America is a joke for not spending money to see a truly bad sequel in a series that should have ended at #3? Sorry, no.

My son was ONE when the first one came out (needless to say he saw it on DVD), but BOTH my kids grew up watching Ice Age movies in theaters...most of the kids who were raised with the series have "grown up" (my kids are now 15 & 11). Even my 11 year old had NO interest in Ice Age (she wanted to see Life of Pets though).

Franchise fatigue has set in and I think its time to retire the series!

America hasn't rejected anything.

Just because I have not seen the movie does not mean I do not care and am rejecting it. They release 1 to 2 blockbusters every week. I am lucky to see 4 movies a summer. At most 6. At $15 a pop (plus refreshments) and that does not included everyone in my family just me. I want to see this but just haven't. We get bombarded my new blockbusters this time of year. If a have to wait a few weeks to see it doesn't mean I rejected it. You people need to relax and stop being negative nellies about everything.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this and makes it a point to bring it up! This year has been easily one of the more overstuffed in terms of franchise sequels, big blockbusters and "must sees" and let's face it. No matter how bad you want to see every film, there just isn't enough money to catch them all. I missed more than a few films already because of that, and it's a shame that when I do see them, and come here to comment, all anyone wants to do is use the box office numbers to paint some "grim" picture.

One example is Independence day Resurgence. I've dealt with posters comparing 1996 box office to todays as a gauge of success. Seriously, Check out the timetable of how movies came out in 1996(the original) and what movies were the competition, and then look at what's come out already this year. Its no wonder the new one barely made 400 million. There are just too many films these days competing for the same time frame. Hopefully Hollywood has learned to space these out more in the future. Just look at Spielberg's BFG. Another example of a film that had no business being released in June, with all the other big budget franchises hitting. Who the heck thought BFG would be a "summer blockbuster"?

Who's strangling the cat?
