Lucas - keep him on the good side
Please, oh God, don't make Lucas' character into a bad guy--like the ex. For once keep a good guy good.

I can see wanting to surprise her but once he realised that she was concerned because she noticed stuff missing and specifically asked him if he took it he should have said "you know what, I did; it's for a surprise, sorry if it freaked you out". But he lied right to her and then acted like she was the bad guy for getting upset. He's not a good guy; he's a douche.
shareIt was weird. No guy who just met a girl does that. Husbands don't do that, mainly because they know not to mess with their wife's stuff, but certainly not a new boyfriend. Very odd.
shareEspecially not if the girl you're dating has an abusive ex who's been around a bit more lately and is clearly upset that she's rebuffing his attempts to reconcile. I don't know if he knew about the fact that he's recently made a couple of reappearances but simply knowing that was her last relationship should be enough. Unless he's a douche.
