Ok..Lets discuss the Elephant in the room...

...this is not going to survive is it? Yet another medical show?

reply

It sounds like Dr. Greg House has moved on...

These civilized people, they’ll eat each other. See, I’m not a monster. I’m just ahead of the curve.

reply

It's Royal Pains on steroids....or cocaine....

You're only seeing one side of the elephant.

This show will inevitably be compared to House, M.D. and Tom Ellis to Hugh Laurie. Will this show just be a cheap knockoff trying to draw us in with sex appeal or will it give us something unique and interesting?

What do you think? Come on you know where this is going. Why do they make these shows when you know they will be pulled after a few episodes? there are several variations of the medical drama that didn't work out some were not even that bad, but. A Gifted Man, Monday Mornings, Emily Owens MD, Off the Map, Do No Harm, Mob Doctor...should I continue?

reply

Because one of them will succeed. For whatever Niche reason. And that what the creators I believe* have always wanted.

Just this summer another one seemed like it was going to fail before it airs,
This was The Night Shift. Which actually got renewed. It has pretty good drama, but with all medical shows, always let pass on the medical errors. or you will have nothing to watch.

reply

I hate how they do that... And speaking of "Monday Mornings," I thought that was a REALLY good show. How that got cancelled and Perception didn't I can't begin to understand...

reply

Late but, Monday Mornings messed up in the first episode. very few wants to watch that viewpoint of the doctors life, the M&M part, and messing up in the first ep... then it was the ensemble cast with everyone being an elite, even in ensemble people want to focus on 1 or few people.

reply

There should be a law against creating new shows in 2014 with "lawyer" or "doctor" in the summary. Seriously, aren't they pretty much done with that "case of the week" crap?

reply

I thought it was OK & it's nothing like House. ;)

reply

I didn't think of House. It was more like a bad boy's version of Royal Pains...which began as a medical version of MacGiver. I do miss MacGiver.

reply

Haven't watched it yet but based on the description I was assuming it was something more like Mob Doctor or a prime time version of American Mary ... a cash-only/ no questions asked doctor working for shady characters or people with medically questionable requests.

I liked the premise for Mob Doctor because it meant they could do the medical stories but break it up with the mob story and not have to stick you with "the case of the week" every time.

Glass in hand I shall return in 43 mins (love tivo).

reply

I don't think the masses is really thinking there is literally no room left for "one more" medical drama. It's a premise that is a draw, and this show does bring a unique edge to the genre. That's never enough to carry a show of course, but it may have all the parts to make it.

reply

This reminds me of that show where the high-flying aloof neurosurgeon got visited by the ghost of his dead, do-gooder wife, and so changed his ways by helping at a free clinic.

Replace dead wife with alive ex, and it seems exactly the same.

I enjoyed 'A Gifted Man'

Grands...Glad to see you come and glad to see you go

I hope this show has 2 or more seasons. The girl doctor Rush loves was great in October road.

You make stupid comments and you haven't even watched it, you wanna know how i know fool?
It's not a medical drama!

It's not a medical drama not in the normal sense not one bit!

reply

I thought "Royal Pains" meets "Ray Donovan".

reply

Yea, I kinda saw it as a cross between House (because of his drug use) and Royal Pains. I don't watch Ray Donanan so wouldn't know see a similarity. It didn't blow me away but I'm interested. I'll watch a few more episodes before making a decision on whether to stay in for the long haul.

reply

Ray Donovan is like Royal Pains with a scene where the doctor beats the athlete to a pulp with the baseball bat!

reply

I hesitated for the first few weeks, not because of the subject matter, but I didn't quite know what to make of the promos. The comparisons to "Royal Pains" and "House" are reasonable, but I'm not really seeing much of either so far. The drug use, for one, caught me a bit off guard; but certainly not in a bad way. House was popping Vics like candy, but his physical affliction called for an elevated regimen. In the first episode of "Rush", we're seeing a brilliant young physician who is completely off the rails on cocaine and booze! Perhaps this is simply a younger version of the man who became Gregory House, but I was impressed with the boldness of the creators in pushing the envelope to such a degree.

If "Royal Pains" can last, there is no reason whatsoever that this show cannot. I'm not seeing just another in a long line of medical shows, it stands quite well on it's own. Rush is not nearly as predictable as most M.D.s playing a lead role; they've proven as much in the span of the first nine episodes. There is of course a narcissism to his character, but his vulnerability and willingness to grow are charming and refreshing traits for a TV doctor. While I'm never surprised to see a unique, quality show get the axe, I would be shocked if USA doesn't pick this one up. They need it, and it has room to grow. They do, however, need to pair it up with something other than "Satisfaction". The demo is way off.

When the tweeting starts, that means it's renewal marketing time. Tom Ellis doesn't even tweet during the show. But this is one of the tweets from today:

Last week we had season high viewing figures for #RUSHonUSA which is a testament to all our amazing fans so thank you all!!! #rushers
The show tweeted this:
Don't forget to look out for #RUSHhour questions all week & you may get rewarded. #RushUSA
I bet he tweets on Thursday. Oh and he got an interview in Harper's Bazaar.

I think it's safe to say Rush is going to be renewed.

Will be compared to "House" and "Ray Donovan" and will fall significantly short on both counts. A medical Mr Fix-it guy without the cerebral humour of House or the great supporting cast of Ray. I'm done with it after five fairly ordinary episodes.
