Royal Pains + Ray Donavan = Rush

At least that's what it seems like to me. Wonder why they're still billing this as a 'movie' and not a series yet.

I've never watched either of those shows, but I saw Larenz Tate in an interview and thought this show sounded a lot like House: Drug-induced great doctor with a best friend who has a good family life, but is fallible to his friends misdeeds...

I can't wait until I can come up with a really clever signature!

I have seen royal pains....not getting the current season...but that's ok....love the show...it's funny as all get out, and it's not supposed to be..

but I just hope that this isn't like another Canadian hospital show that began this year.....remedy.....

I like both those shows.

And I will like this one too.

My thoughts exactly. Hank Med meets Ray Donovan. I stopped watching Royal Pains when it became predictable, but really enjoy the darkness and complexity of Donovan. This being USA network it won't be too dark or too complex, but that doesn't mean I won't like it, so I'll give it a chance.

Where are my dragons?

reply

Yes, it's because "Rush" is so slick and upbeat that I cannot ever make the "Ray Donovan" connection. The latter is ful of layers and runs dark. Both guys are discreet, cater to people with deep pockets, and fix problems. That is the general comparison of similarities. Both are self-destructive too but in different ways.

That's funny cause the entire time watching the premiere I kept thinking Royal Pains + Nurse Jackie = Rush

"I don't love you enough to hate you!"

I see what you mean. The whole call doctor thing except he caters to high class losers with a lot of money and problems.

Royal Pains ? No way ! That show sucks ! It's more like the movie Playing God, that starred david duchovny back in 97.

I haven't seen it yet, but plan to. However when I read the premise, it sounds to me like Royal Pains + Rake (USA).

The ability to always see the worst in people and situations is often a hiding place for fear.
