What did I just watch?

To be clear, I've enjoyed all three films in the franchise. I also read the novels twice, and enjoyed them immensely.

What I fail to see is what the movie "Allegiant" had to do with the book "Allegiant." If it weren't for Tris and Four, I wouldn't have recognized it.

The hovercrafts, those little flying discs, Johanna taking up arms against Natalie, these are all far from the book.

I know the book had a lot of weaknesses, but couldn't they have stuck a little closer to the original story?

I intend to live forever.
So far, so good.

I just gave away the ending in the theater because everyone was severely lost and confused where this was going and what made the material they used worthy of two movies. I sat there lost. Having read all the books including Four multiple times, as well. WTF were they even going with this? What did it have to do with the first or second part of the book Allegiant? Where tf is Uriah?! Why did they step off a Cliff in Chicago and end up in the Martian?! I'm so thoroughly confused. They did all these stylized takes of very simple scenes that required little to no animation as the way the book described it. They could have gotten all of Allegiant into one movie if they tightened up some of the plot pacing issues, that to me built the book up to points of tension that drove you into loyalties and relationships with the characters. We have no clue in the movie who is 'Good','Bad', 'Friend' or 'Foe' and not just because the duality of the new characters, they didn't take enough time doing character building beyond Tris, and partially with Four. We don't know why they are making these choices and were their 'Allegiances'lie and why. We don't know why we are rooting for them. And the book without a doubt delves into these things with each of the central characters;Tris, Christina, Four, Uriah, Zeke, Tori, Peter and the other Dauntless, Candor, Amity Allegiants. We have no effing clue what is motivating anyone in the movie. Not to mention with that huge fail they have added things to the story, moved scenes from spits were they actually had a purpose and plugged then in randomly til it is just beyond confusing to try to keep up with where this is going. When the movie ended I had to stop and Google to make sure they still are going to do a second half of Allegiant because non-readers can't tell it's not over. And a fan and reader like me can't tell how they will be able to continue on from this point with enough to fill in a entire "Ascendant" movie.....

Utterly disappointed.

***SPOILERS FROM THE BOOK***
They took the general plot?them going outside the wall, unveiling the truth behind David and the Genetic Welfare and stopping the memory serum?from the Allegiant book. They left out: Tris's death (expected, giving the next film) and Uriah (though he wasn't in the film at all, let alone barley in the previous one), and the explosion in the airport that change everything. Idk how the next one is going to pan out, but it's in the hands of the director.
