Shailene Wants a Feature Film Finale

Recent interview during the Snowden press shows Josh Horowitz (Mtv News) asking what exactly Shailene hopes is the outcome of this rumor of whether we'll see Ascednant on the big screen or small screen.

It's no secret Shai is NOT having that, because from her own words she didn't sign up to do a tv film, which is completely understandable. It's like Lionsgate forced an inflated budgeted two-part finale on all cast and fans and now they're dropping the ball because they did bad marketing and budgeting! Take your head out of your a$$es Lionsgate, suck up your pride and give the fans (which have contributed 750million to the film series so far) a proper send off.

Everyone wants a feature film. I don't think the actors will do it without one. The signed on for a theatrical release, not TV, so there is no obligation. I don't think it will happen if it goes to TV, and if the original actors aren't in them, no one will watch

I'm not surprised Lionsgate wants to switch from a theatrical release to a TV release; as they probably think it will be easier on their bank accounts.
But another part of me thinks: the franchise overall hasn't been the breakout hit they were expecting, (it's made profit, but not billions like a THG successor would have to) and there's only s'posed to be one movie left to release anyway - so why not just stick with a theatrical release for the last film?
It might be a poor financial decision, but they're still a huge company. Huge film companies take at least a couple significant losses every year...how bad could potentially one more be? Then at least the franchise is finished, and you can start scouting out the Next Big Teen Thing.

Lionsgate is a publicly owned company, and that is not how shareholders think. If the final movie is guaranteed to lose money if it is made a theatrical release, then it would be irresponsible of Lionsgate management to move forward with it.

Sucks for fans, but such is the nature of being publicly owned. Your bosses are the shareholders, most of which worship the Almighty Dollar and couldn't care less about a money-losing teen series.

Well, I'm not a shareholder of anything lol, but the business man in me believes that it would be bad press if they decided to whimp out now, after 4 years of pushing this series only to cancel on the finale? Not smart at all. And they should of known it wasn't going to be the HG franchise based on the receipts from the first movie!

Cut the budget down to 45million, focus on story more then the action and cool expensive set pieces (it'll save them money) and give the fans what they want, so that at least they'll get a better rep then what they would if they bailed on the series now. Then learn from your mistakes and move forward to the Power Rangers franchise, and call it a day.

We're only in this mess because the studio got greedy and wanted to split the last part into two movies. This was promoted as an epic story and people were suckered into paying to see it on the theory that they would eventually finish it. Now, they want to pull the rug out from under all the fans. It may make financial sense, but it's a crappy thing to do.

If a studio isn't willing to commit to filming an entire series, maybe they should look elsewhere for their material.

They should also learn the concept that when one movie fails, it's because people didn't like that particular movie, not because they suddenly dislike the entire franchise or the genre in general. After every single unpopular Star Trek movie I'd read some quote from a braindead studio executive stating that the public was tired of Star Trek or science fiction in general. It's been over 30 years since Star Trek III: The Search for Spock was considered a failure and Star Trek is still going strong. Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 were big hits, Spider-Man 3 doesn't do as well as expected (mostly due to studio meddling) and they think that everyone suddenly hates Spider-Man and/or Toby Maguire. Bunch of morons.

My question is, why do they insist on spending $90+ Million to make these movies? Go look at the budgets for the Maze Runner movies, neither of them cost more than $60 Million to make and they ended up making more money worldwide than divergent. They wouldn't be having this problem if they just made it with a $50 Million budget. Get a new director, one that can manage to make a great film without relying on special fx.

I say they should just make the movie about 3hrs long nice amount of action and end it. The TV show should just be a follow up after they win the war. They should do the same with hunger games and make a TV show.
