it was good viewing but i HATED danny and his story felt slightly staged, i dunno his selling clothes for 20 quid to buy crack cocaine (cliched?), his argument with the cops, his arrest and then stealing the grass from a local dealer and subsequent rejailing. Ironically his story made the whole thing watchable as the other people were a bit weak and uninteresting.

I felt ultimately sad for most of them, even Danny. He's obviously not a dumb guy, he went down the wrong track in life and uses his smarts/skills to rip merchants off to fund a drug habit.

There's been a lot of feedback on the show via twitter and I've been following it on the Digital Spy forum as well. Many think Channel 4 has hit an all-time low, which ironically equates to high viewing numbers.

Viewers love it though.

overall it is entertaining but the cast spoke to the daily mail and said channel 4 lied about how they were going to show the street and its residents

Wouldn't be the first time they stitched someone up for ratings I bet.

Having watched many episodes of Come Dine With Me and Four In A Bed, a lot of the feedback on those shows is that the editing is terrible and one-sided so they can get their 'panto' villain in the mix.

I think I did read briefly something about the couple with the little kids complaining how they were portrayed, but they admitted themselves that they committed benefit fraud. Did the producers make them say that? I'm not defending Channel 4, but I have a feeling what we did see is probably true, but it does not represent the majority of those on benefits.

Wouldn't surprise me they offered a bit of cash-in-hand to some of the participants to behave a certain way or say certain things on camera though. People that are hard-up for money are an easy target for the likes of Channel 4 and Jeremy Kyle.

i liked the show but the one scene that felt staged was danny in the city centre with the cops on his case, they follow him towards his "appointment" and all of a sudden he throws a big fit and is arrested. i mean cmon!!

I know what you mean, it's possible that it was somewhat staged. He may be very well-known to the local police though.

I'm surprised with his reputation they don't make him wear a tag. Fungi would be better off without him as an influence. From the end of the last episode, I don't think Danny will be welcome back anyway.

There are some very 'out there' attitudes when it comes to the issue of those on long-term benefits. I have seen some say things like 'they should drop a bomb on that street' or 'they should be sterilized' on other forums. I bet someone like Katie Hopkins would love that.

Having seen more episodes, and also having watched 'Big Benefits Row' last night on Channel 5, it definitely seems like the show was heavily edited to suit an agenda, no suprise.

I agree with you that there needs to be more thought given to those who are born into poverty who will go on to bring up their own children knowing no different.
