World of Warcraft anyone?

LF1M DPS for SH, got warr tank, priest healer, rogue, mage.

Tank is crap though, one hit and he's toast. Priest can only heal out of combat, wtf? Rogue is OK, but like any rogue, vanishes when *beep* gets real (and does it from behind). Mage can pull it out of the bag, but seems like she's in guild chat too much and really wants to be a spriest or a lock.

The BELF they get in Darkspore might sort them out :-P

If you're first thought is WOW and not D&D then you must be a troll.

Ah, internet logic. Because you said "you're" instead of "your" you must be a perpetual adolescent living in a basement.

Maybe, but he does have a point...

I didn't understand most of your first and last sentences, so I assume those are WoW specific.
However, the rest of it is a perfectly reasonable representation of starting characters in D&D or most other tabletop RPGs and in fact that is one of the main target audiences the films are designed around. It becomes more evident in later films as their skills and abilities start beefing up. I watched these with one of my DMs and he was just sat there reeling off all the game mechanics on screen - "definitely 4th Level caster... that one's an 8th Level spell... Fighter failed saving throw... that was at least a 19 roll-to-hit...".
It was actually quite annoying, even if he was clearly right! 

Might be worth nothing, though, that a number of the cast and crew are avid Warcraft players, too.

Jake Stormoen (who plays the Rogue here) is massively into WoW and usually plays alongside his good buddy Kristian Nairn (Hodor in Game of Thrones), who also joins the cast in the forthcoming 5th installment of the Mythica series.

There is quite a lot of overlap between WoW and DnD. I appreciate that this might be more DnD-like than WoW-like, however I've only played WoW. I was making a joke, not writing a critique of how well this film represents any game in particular.

How do you know if you've not played both, though?

Maybe so, but even if inadvertently, you've still put forward a very valid and pertient observation on the matter. Quite worthy of debate, in fact.
