Mountains in Croatia??

There are no mountains near Vinkovci an Brod in real life. In fact that area is about as flat as a pancake as it is part of the Pannonian basin. I just couldn't believe my eyes, of all the placed they could have picked to have their snow blizzard they chose a place that has precisely the opposite topography. It is like showing Palm trees in movie set in Iceland. It's also offensive to the people that live those areas.

Well in the book they really got stranded in a snow blizzard in Vinkovci.

In the movie they went over the top, with huge mountains and avalanche and of course the train was also stuck in the middle of a bridge. I think they wanted to make it more exciting and dramatic for the modern audience.

But yeah it was funny to see mountains in Slavonia. Actually it seems like they imagined the whole Balkans like the Alps or something, because since they left Istanbul there were huge mountain tops everywhere.

But I bet no one else noticed, except us who live there, people who visited and rare few who know a thing about geography. :)

Well, according to Sir Kenneth, Croatia is a mountainous area populated with Indians.

I doubt people are really offended by it... At most they'd find it an amusing display of geographic ignorance...

People probably get excited about having their home or a place they are familiar with being depicted on the big screen. I can understand feeling let down or disappointed when it's not actually filmed there.

makes sense
