Season 2 kind of felt like a finale - an open ended one. Is there a season 3? Did the anime already cover all the manga material? Is there more Manga for this coming out?
I certainly hope so. One nice thing about this anime compared to pretty much every other one out there is this one can actually release a new DUBBED season within a year! Still waiting on Titan season 2 and Sword Art Online season 2 DUBBED - 5 YEARS LATER!!!!!! COME ON, JAPAN!
I believe there will be more. I personally did like this series when I first saw it last year. I binged on season 2 within days before it was released on Netflix, but in the original Japanese language with subtitles. Personally I like it because it has that Robotech feel to it with perhaps a little Gundam Wing and something else as well, I just can't remember at this time.
The Gauna are still there....waiting and evolving. Funny how there's no mention of other Sidnia-esque type ships that may be floating around ins space. I mean, Sidonia can't be the only one.
And as far as Attack on Titan....I'm waiting on that beeitch too. Some of these indidviduals don't realize that sometimes, they may have a hit on their hands but aren't prepared to do anything about it. Easiest thing to do is to think of an emergency contingency plan.
In season 1 they said Sidonia was all that's left of mankind. I was then a bit thrown off when we saw what I thought was a group studying Planet 9. It seemed to me like they weren't sent their from Sidonia.

I think they were from Sidonia, some of those who protested against the Gauna fighting mid-season 1. They insisted that the Gauna were attracted to the kabizashi weapons - which turned out to be partly true. But most of the settlers were killed anyway, despite not having weapons. Izana figured it out at the end of season 2 that Gauna are also attracted to their Hyggs batteries.
shareI read something online that said that there was a desire for further seasons, but that the main obstacle was that the manga and the anime were nearly caught up. Personally, I hope that they branch out from the anime because there are some disturbing elements in it concerning Nagate'd love life. I don't really consider this to be a spoiler since it is concerning a hookup and not a main plot element, but apparently Nagate doesn't hook up with one of the countless beauties Pershing him. Oh no...he declared his love for that 2 year old pink gumby looking worm. Seriously?!? If they put that in, consider shark jumped.
shareTsumugi/"gumby looking worm"/Hoshijiro is the only 'person' he's been interested in throughout the course of the whole show. Don't see why that'd be considered "jumping the shark", it's not like it came out of nowhere.

As far as I'm concerned, its existence in the first place is already in shark jumping territory. Those scenes just make me cringe. Thankfully the rest of the series is great. There's never been a shortage of cringe-worthy scenes outside of the battles - same can be said for any anime really.

I see nothing sexual about those two. He treats her more like a younger sister. And I think you're confusing "jumping the shark" with being surprised. It's not that it comes from nowhere...though it will to those who don't follow the manga. It's that it's a dumb plot line. Since you already "outted" the hookup, I'll go ahead and say that having the hero guy fall in love with a pink, elastic worm-like creature drawn in an overly cute manner and with the personality of a little (I'm talking like 7 year old) child's personality isn't going to be all that wildly popular, especially if they're trying to appeal to an international market.
@OP- not sure. There is enough manga material for another season. I hope it happens.

Doubtful. The end definitely felt like a send-off. Furthermore, I understand that the production house involved only works on one thing at a time and they've switched to making another show or movie.
