Sarah-Lynn

Is anyone else emotionally gutted by her demise?

She wad one of my favourite characters, it's not like I couldn't see it coming but still - I kind of hoped she would somehow future things around.

I too liked her character and was saddened at the end of her story line which is why I think what happened was very effective story telling. The audience needs to have a bond and/or some affection for the characters in a story in order for the audience to be affected by things that happen to those characters. If bad things in a story only happen to "red shirts" then those things have little to no emotional impact on the audience.

A little bit, yeah. I did not see that coming.

Absolutely gutted.

As much as she claimed she was just sober for the really strong high she'd get when she went off drugs she WAS marking the days sober off and writing in her milestones like major achievements. And she did want her sobriety pin. On some level she did want help. But she had no support network.

It just felt so real.

You look like that flashcard they told me means sadness.

reply

Yeah and the tragedy in that is that his connection with her is was pulled her down. He was probably one of her only remaining friends but he didn't help her. He just used her to wallow in self pity and destroyed her in the process.

It really hit me hard too. She cried out for help so many times in that episode and he just kept turning it back to himself and going deeper into the binge. It was so sad to watch but I was still surprised that she died even though, looking back, they were totally setting it up. Good writing there.

Bojack and Sarah-Lynn had a connection. That connection being booz and drugs and man Bojack has so much guilt now. I almost cried when she died.

reply

Omg...that's why I came on here lol. I love the show buy her death really struck a cord. I kept thinking half way through it 'nah they won't make her character die' but damn. I felt like I wanted to cry. I was so mad at bojack for encouraging her to break her sobriety since he was like a father figure but that's bojack

I read somewhere that Melissandre's gonna bring her back.

reply

Yeah, poor Sarah. Honestly, this show is just so depressing. And so is BoJack's life.

reply

I should've seen it coming but didn't. I didn't think they would actually kill her off. It was really sad.

reply

I wasn't that affected. I mean, it was a well done episode, but for whatever reason, this show doesn't seem to trigger me emotionally. I don't think that's a bad thing, though - I usually leave the show in a ponderous state of mind rather than emotional one, and I respect it for that.

reply

Not gutted... more relieved. I get that they were going for the screwed-up child-actress who was progressively destroying herself, and that BoJack feels responsible for her death, and the way it was handled in the episode was rather well done.

But I never liked her character, and frankly am glad she's been bumped off. She and BoJack are both damaged goods... but I feel a bit worse for Sarah-Lynn simply because she was still young enough to turn her life around if she wanted to, and it makes her death that bit more senseless.
