You really can't compare a movie with a nearly $40M budget, a professional-grade cast, and professional screenwriters against a micro-budget indie with much less in every department. Harbinger is a labor of love and is okay for what it is, but you simply cannot expect the same level of achievement. Sometimes, such as with Blair Witch and even It Follows, a small-budget film can surprise you but most of the time the flaws that result from budget constraints are quite obvious and insurmountable.
While The Thing (2011) isn't an okay movie that suffers when compared to the 1982 version, it's still a significantly better film than Harbinger.

Well said. It's difficult and often unfair to compare such different things. The original The Thing was magnificent, one of my all time favorites. The remake is what you can expect in a remake, not as good. Harbinger Down when rated solely on what it did, and not in comparison to other films, suffered in many ways. It seemed disjointed and the characters didn't feel fleshed out. I liked the setup but was overall disappointed.

shareFor a fan of The Thing 1982 Harbinger Down is indeed way, way better then the horrible remake of 2011. The 2011 version doesnt have anything to do with the Thing at all. and Harbinger Down is a honest and solid homage to this movie classic.
