ending (spoilers? not sure)

why does this trend of films that just stop exist. so I liked the movie, liked the characters, wanted to know what happened to them but NO, *beep* YOU, says the film maker. The movie stops when I say so, not when the story ends.
still I liked it. when films end like soprano style I instantly give them 1/10 on IMDB even if I liked the rest of the movie, just something I do so I remember that the ending pissed me off. This one was not as abrupt but still... 4/10?

Jude (the narrator) *does* explain what happens to the characters at the end of the movie. Not sure how you could have missed that...

What was left to find out? She was giving the baby up, Ethan and his son planned to get a new place and continue living together, everything hinted towards Emile getting back with his boyfriend. Pretty much everything was wrapped up.

reply

But, when he talks about Eliza starting family and Jude becoming a father? Does that mean they are together or not?

reply

From the way he worded it my take on it was that they are not together 10 years on, which would also link up with the earlier conversation when she asked him "When we eventually lose contact, which is destined to happen, will you think I was the most messed up girl you ever knew?" (paraphrasing).

reply

Yeah but I just looked up for the clues in the book and it kind of hints that they may be together since there is an easter egg detail. The book tends to be ambivalent about that as well.

reply

Can you share the easter egg?

reply

Does it matter? Both endings work well, and both are conventional. So, you can take your pick, one for every day in the week. Just sit back and enjoy ...

reply

Yeah, not only is everything wrapped up, but the movie closes on a shot of Teddy's kid playing in the new playground that has been built where the homeless used to hang out. It's actually more closure than I expected.

Prepare your minds for a new scale of physical, scientific values, gentlemen.

The dark-haired kid playing basketball. I didn't make that connection; thanks for that.
