Any 80s teens here?

Did you find this movie got he feel right for being a teen in the 1980s?

Ethan Hawk was a teen then so I suppose he's had an influence.

I wanted to get the opinions of some 80s teen on this.

I know not everyone huffed *beep* and smoked weed, but was the rest of the feel right to you?

'80s teen...watching it now. Completely off. The look, the feel, the dialogue, the clothes, the hair, slang, the girls' makeup, the drugs, the attitudes and opinions, the vibe around sex and generally between males and females. I'm 30 minutes in and not sure I can hang much longer.

EDIT: the depictions of Lower East Side, CBGB, NY inn general are spot-on accurate.

I suppose if you really lived in a suburban John Hughes never-never land in the 80's, you probably wouldn't find this movie realistic, but I don't think anyone REALLY lived that way back then. Yet ironically that is how a lot of people nostalgically "remember" the decade nowadays.

There are a few niggling details that are off, but I think this movie has the right feel. That's probably because it's very obviously a PERSONAL story and is not really trying to be "an 80's movie" in the definitive sense. A lot of stuff is right on, but then I don't think everybody had the SAME experience in the 80's. And in the mists of nostalgia, the real decade often gets confused with media-created images of "The Breakfast Club" and "St. Elmo's Fire" even among those that were actually there.
