I was so sure this was going to end on a tragic note. These movies always do. When you hear her changing and you hear those gross, sloppy noises, I knew... I just knew they wouldn't end up together.
And then it cuts down, and she's human, just smiling at him.
Such a perfectly romantic ending. Beautiful.

It was obvious that she was gonna change in the end IMO... The plot resembles dozens of romances out there already (just replace the supernatural thing with some other obstacle like self-hatred, drug-use or married or whatever).
So yeah the happy ending was no surprise, I expected at the very least to have her go monster one last time before reverting though so I was literally like 'really?' when the credits started rolling

I was actually hoping for a dark ending. When I heard the noise I thought it was going to pan down and she's be eating him. I still wish it ended with her final form. Overall though I've grown to love ending. Great film.
shareI kind of wished they'd left it open ended. We should have heard the noises, saw his face, he looks down and then... credits. I know, it's cliche, but most things are. I think the open ending would have fit the type of film it was- let the viewer decide would they be happy? was it a lie? They set up this theme of him constantly losing all he loves, so the "... and they lived happily ever after" ending really seems out of place.
For what it was though, a fine film. A bit long in the front end, but some amazing scenery.
My husband and I saw this on the weekend. Neither of us knew anything about it so went in totally blind. I really liked it until the happily ever after ending. I thought that spoilt an otherwise interesting movie and would have preferred something dark or ambiguous. Entertaining and the leads were good but it could have been better. I'll probably have a rewatch when I'm in a lighter mood.

after some time has passed, I'm inclined to agree. A dark ending would have fit the film thematically, but it would have been somewhat forgettable. The happy ending was the only real surprise ending they could go with, so it makes more sense.
shareI will agree that the happy ending was a total surprise for me, but I wasnt in the mood for a romance at that time, and that's exactly what I said to my husband 'oh god it was just a romance'. I was just in a darker mood after all the crappy news lately, if that makes sense. I didnt dislike the movie by any means. Just wrong genre for the mood I was in so the ending totally took me by surprise.
shareIn retrospect it was a bit like Charlie Countryman. Guy's mother dies, he leaves everything behind and goes to Europe, falls in love, some bad stuff happens. I cant remember if Charlie C had a happy ending, though. It's been a while since I saw that.
