Wait a sec (spoilers)

At the end was Michael Jai White only an android with his old human's personality and memories and no longer a human controlling it on the other end, or was he still a human being on the other end but no longer susceptible to outside influence like before? I'm thinking it was the former but I welcome your thoughts. And yes I realize I am spending way too much time analyzing a movie like this.
