Here is the true story: it's loosely inspired by this case

This is actually an Alfred Hitchcock remake which was based on a true story.

Ah no wonder this movie is so ridiculous. Back in the 50s cops got away with a lot of stupid shyte regarding evidence that can't be done today.

Though, an innocent person being arrested, tried and convicted for a crime they didn't commit isn't unheard of today. But it takes way more effort for it to happen to a white, middle class person with a decent private attorney. I guess the writers were too dumb or lazy to put any effort into creating a believable story on how it may have happened.

I don't trust people who don't like pets and I don't trust people who pets don't like.

While most of your statement is true, I did not feel the lawyer was all that competent. Perhaps I should say instead, that I found him to be incredibly lazy, and uninterested in the case. It constantly felt like he just wanted everything to be over so he could move on to a "more worthy" case, and didn't really care what happened to her. I did not like him at all.

I watched the Hitchcock film after I watched this TV movie yesterday. We don't like to think that these sort of things can happen. But it happened to someone in 1953.
