Showing, not Telling

Frankly, the writers of these games are pretty damn good at it, especially when it comes to Gared Tuttle's relationships with the other members of House Forrester.

For example, even though no one says anything in-game, it's pretty clear by the things they say and do that Gared and Talia have feelings for each other. The way she asked about HIS family before asking about her father, and the look they shared when she gave him her necklace. It should be pretty obvious to anyone who's seen two teenagers in love.

Even better done was Gared's implied mentor-student relationship with Ser Royland. Since Gared was a squire for House Forrester for years, it can be reasonably inferred that he learned sword-fighting from Royland. The fact that Royland asked Gared to talk sense into Duncan suggests that he assumed Gared would side with him, and his face when Duncan banishes Gared to the Wall suggests he's genuinely pained at the prospect of him leaving.
