You're supposed to be sneaky, stealthy quiet...

So why does your character slam open/close locker doors when you hide in them?

And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.

That's a good question. For someone trying to sneak through quietly, Ripley sure does make a lot of noise. The funny thing is, from my experience the Alien doesn't even hear the doors slamming!

I thought that too, it was funny but also killed the mood a little.

Better hide...
#Gets in locker and slams door#
#Alien wanders past#
Whew, that was close
#Exits locker and slams door#

It can hear you breathing, but not slamming doors... I really want to find an in universe reason why that is, maybe it has some sort of tinnitus so it ALWAYS hears slamming?

I only hid in lockers a couple of times throughout the game. I didn't like that you couldn't see very well from in there or use the motion tracker and if you're discovered you're dead. At least from behind or under something if you are spotted you can use the flame thrower and you can watch the alien's movements.

Assuming you have the FT at that point of course.

I only hid in them when the Alien was coming into the room and I had nowhere to go.

Lol well they have her slamming it that way to show her fear and urgency but still that is stupid. They should have programmed it to where if the alien is near she shuts it gently and says "shhh" to herself or something.

The more I play the more convinced I am that the alien can't hear the lockers slamming open or closed or hear the sound of your cutting torch.

Seems like the alien only reacts if he sees me or has reason to believe I'm in there outside of the noise. Its just weird that they put so much effort into the alien hearing so many sounds. Whether you walk or run or crouch and walk, banging on lockers with the maintenance tool to get its attention, using noisemakers, yet this one exception remains that slamming doors aren't heard.

I suppose that's made intentionally by developers. Not really the slamming part, but the fact that Ripley opens and closes the doors really fast, mostly to perform the action more quickly. Imagine if Alien is nearby and you try to hide from him in the locker, but when you press the key to perform such action, Ripley does it slowly. I feel like that would be even more frustrating. They could have just made it so sound of the locker's door is not high, but that wouldn't make sense neither as you can't really slam a door (pretty much any door) without making a voice. This does look a little bit unrealistic but it's not really a big deal, you have plenty of other stuff which are pretty damn realistic IMO.
