"Mad Max is a shallow, forgettable experience"

Those inevitable wins felt empty, and that's really the biggest problem with Mad Max. The film franchise has always transcended the summer blockbuster genre, providing worlds and characters and scenarios that have stuck in my mind. Mad Max the game is the opposite; it's got chase scenes and big explosions and bloody fights, but nothing to remember it for. In spite of some annoying technical issues and questionable design, Mad Max is functional, but it's fluff, plain and simple.

Doesn't sound very promising...

its getting a very mixed response from reviewers. People seem to like it more though. I think this is a "if you're into that kind of thing" game.

I think its wiser to take the gaming websites' reviews into consideration and ignore the fanboys. Lets see how it turns out in couple of days time.

The Mad Max combat is similar to Arkham Asylum, but slower and more brutal, making it a bit more challenging IMO. The car combat is similar to the batmobile in Arkham Knight, but with way more room for movement and chaos in the open wasteland and more realistic physics and lethal weaponry.

Max's movement reminds me of Tomb Raider, as well as some of the scrap scavenger sites and upgrade system.

I love the storms that hit on occassion, and I'm actually having a good time playing it so far. It's kind of a game for the fans, so if you're not too into Mad Max, then you likely won't find anything too memorable. I'm enjoying the psychological study within the story, and having fun exploring the wasteland.

Fair to say, aside from the drastic weather conditions, this game may not offer anything breakthrough in the world of gaming, but it has combined elements of a few cool games that makes for a fun time if a dive into this world appeals to you.

You mean, there's a glitch in the frame rate?

Oww...that's another letdown. It wasn't easy to control her in TR: Anniversary.
Thanks for sharing btw, it really meant a great deal to me, I was about to buy this darn thing I think I'll give it a pass and go for other games.

Buy it. At least rent it. I picked this up along with MGSV, spent a few hours late Monday night, early Tuesday morning playing MGSV, then popped this in when I got off work Tuesday night. MGSV is sitting on top of my PS4 collecting dust, while Mad Max hasn't seen the outside of my PS4 for a week now.

The ground combat is sort of like Arkham Knight, though I would say it is closer to Shadow of Mordor. Character control is pretty standard for 3rd person action games. Vehicle handling feels like a well made GTA clone; not perfect, but close. The cars are a little floaty, which is actually how it should be for cars set up to run off-road.

Vehicle combat is a little harder to describe. It starts out as a lot of side slamming and turning circles to get lined up on your opponent. You can shoot the exposed gas tank on most early enemies to kill them quick (game goes slow-mo while aiming) but ammo is not exactly easy to come by at first, so I found it was best just to grind and smash my way to victory most of the time. Once you get your harpoon, most enemies can be pacified by simply yanking off a wheel, or even pulling off a door and then pulling out the driver. Some vehicles you'll want to snag for yourself and take back to a stronghold. Eventually enemies become better armored, so the challenge factor increases.

I'm 35% complete (there's a lot of side missions/optional grinding you can do, so I haven't been burning through the story) and so far I've found all of the gameplay to be fun with a decent amount of challenge and only minor frustration when looking for side objectives.

It does a good job at being its own story, wile still mixing in the lore presented in all of the films. The voice acting is good, the scenery is beautifully rendered. The lighting at times is gorgeous. I've ran into a few bugs with road textures floating and some sounds cutting out, but they're minor enough to be annoying, but not distracting enough to pull you out of the game.

I give it 8.5/10.

Sounds very interesting, speaking of which I got Shadow of Mordor last week. Haven't played it yet though.

I didn't mention anything about FANBOYS. All I said was that PEOPLE seemed to be enjoying it for what it is. Which is pretty much what the poster above who has played it echoed. If you like this kind of thing you're probably going to enjoy it.

Just advice in the gaming world but always do both, ignore the fanboys and the pro reviews those can be very biased. Try to find the real gamers to get the real scoop.

START THE REVOLUTION! SHRED THE GOVERNMENT! My favorite movie is V for Vendetta.
