I like the idea... (SPOILERS)

... that this is a prequel to the Fury Road movie. The Wikipedia plot description alludes to that. At first I wasn't happy about them tying the game to the newest movie, but it actually worked well. The story was certainly better, but I thought Fury Road didn't really have a story. (Let's GTFO of here! Oh wait, we went too far, let's go back). The game went like this: guy loses car after losing everything else, guy searches for new car (and himself) and meets some really interesting people along the way. And gets his old car back!

I've waited forever for a Mad Max game. Does anyone remember Outlander from the mid-90s? Unlike that one, this game was a LOT of fun. It had pieces of some great games I've played over the years, all rolled into one. I'm sure it was more fun for me since I grew up watching The Road Warrior and Thunderdome every time it was shown on cable. Voice acting was good, driving was realistically frustrating, vehicle/character upgrades were fulfilling, and missions weren't too repetitive. NPCs were entertaining too. I really liked Max's exchanges with Griffa (AKA what's left of his conscience) and Chumbucket is one of my favorite characters in any game I've played. I love how he spoke of vehicles with a religious fervor. Hope and Glory's death was heartbreaking and surprised me. I figured at least the daughter would live and Max could place her with Pink Eye. My only gripe is that the Top Dogs were all exactly alike except for the color of their outfits. I thing the developers really missed an opportunity to have them each with their own moves and fighting style, and get progressively more difficult.

Too bad there probably won't be a Mad Max 2 game, the critics haven't been kind to this one.

Y'all hear that? We're using code names.

It does work well as a prequel about a year or two before Fury Road. Or however long it would take Max's hair and beard to grow as long as it was at the start of the film.

As sad as Hope and Glory's deaths were, it is appropriate. The ending of the story really reminds me of the end of the original Mad Max, when he drives off into the wilderness after getting revenge. Revenge that ultimately gave him no peace.

I agree about the Top Dogs. Another gripe I have is that despite finding shotgun shells all over the wasteland, none of the bad guys actually use shotguns. Would've made things more challenging. Also, could not store food in the car. You find dozens of cans of Dinki-Di in that church, but can't keep any despite that it was supposed to be your reward for that quest.

The developers themselves have stated that this game is not based on, not a sequel nor a prequel to any of the films.

Its just a Mad Max game inspired by the film series. There is are bits inspired by all four of the films in the game. But the the game is completely stand alone from the film series.

And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.

The main villain of the game, Scabrous Scrotus, is the son of Immortan Joe. So while it doesn't directly lead in to Fury Road, it is connected to it in some form. You also see Scrotus' insignia on a car in Fury Road, however this could just be that he shares the same symbol with his father. Thought it was pretty cool regardless.

I agree with you Tel_74, I loved the game, setting and style of play the only reason I don't give it top marks is the bosses being virtually the same bar a change in colour, its the only thing in an otherwise perfect example of how a Max game should be, hell even the camera and screen filters were enjoyable to mess about with.. A solid 9/10
