I liked the pilot.

I hope it gets picked up! I thought it was excellent!

Did they do it in 4K?

reply

Agreed - it was fantastic. Stellar job by all of the actors, especially Matt Bomer and Kelsey Grammar. Great tension between them. Can't wait to see what happens to Monroe Stahr next.

reply

Sadly it won't get picked up.
It's too expensive, and general audiences don't like TV shows about nostalgia anymore. Check out Mob City, and Public Morals. The only people who are interested in this stuff are movie lovers, and artsy folks. Nothing wrong with that, but the general public is simply awful in their tastes.

That said, this pilot was a bit heavy handed anyway.

reply

I couldn't disagree with you more! So far, the critical reviews have been excellent. I think it will be picked up just based on all the positive reviews by viewers, and I think that is what Amazon bases its decisions by (I hope).
IMO, it was a wonderful pilot!
If you want to see a pilot that WILL NOT get picked up it would have to be "The Interestings". Now that was a piece of crap that I wasted an hour watching! Tired formula that has been rehashed a zillon times. The Big Chill & Reality Bites it ain't!

reply

I understand some of your points, but if the expense was an issue, they wouldn't have created the pilot in the first place. Seems as though people loved this pilot so hopefully more than just artsy people will vote in favor. I do agree about the heavy handed in areas - I think that's the case with most pilots though.

reply

If it has lower than stellar reviews, it would be easier to keep it on the air, if it was less expensive.

reply

I loved it too! It wasn't without flaws but for the most part it set up a fascinating premise with many conflicts of the 1930s being addressed. Matt Bomer made a great Monroe Stahr! The reviews for the most part have been glowing. I think it's safe to say, Amazon has a hit on its hands!

I found the pilot fairly boring. It started well, but slowly got dull as it progressed. I think it would have been much more enjoyable as a self-contained film, but I highly doubt it would be something worthy of binging multiple episodes.

reply

A single, self-contained, movie would work but I'd say it would do better as a straight to disc 24 episode series. Allow for a more protracted telling while allowing for more content and not giving people a chance to get bored between airing breaks.

Agree.Thought it was very good. However, so dislike when they lure you in and then there are no more episodes to watch. 😩
