Why Did Haider need to feign madness?

First of all let me start by saying that I love this movie. Having loved both Maqbool and to a lesser extent Omkara my expectations for this were high.
I still don't understand why Haider needed to feign madness. At that point in the film he is convinced that his uncle is the culprit and even his uncle is aware of what he is up to (photographic evidence of him meeting Rooh). Hamlet Feigns madness because he wants to throw his uncle off the scent and buy time to gather evidence against him (all the while not being sure himself on whether to trust the ghost of his father). So for what purpose does Haider feign madness?

reply

It was unnecessary because we are already told that his uncle did this. If we had seen flashbacks of KK's story then it would have created suspense.

Your assumption that Haider is convinced of his uncle's guilt is wrong. Sure, he heard it from the militants(Rooh), but he wasn't 100% certain of it. That's why he feigns madness. He himself says so in an intimate scene with Arshi. He is only fully convinced after the Bismil dance when he sees the conviction in his uncle's eyes. This is similar to what happens in the original Hamlet as well.

reply

No the assumption isn't wrong. Rooh's story is told in flashback with his voice over. So we as audience are pretty convinced his uncle did this. If K K's story was told in flashback aswel then it would have put us in confusion and got us curious to find the truth and then Haider acting crazy would have made more sense.

K.K does tell his version of story to haider, immediately as he know about Roohdar, which creates a doubt in haider's mind and he shares or tells this to shardhaa kapoor

I know he does but as an audience I shouldn't know more than the protogonist. I should feel and think as the protogonist. Kay Kay singing with his mom and his friend with the army established that he's the villian so in this case we already knew everything. If the plot wasn't set then it would have been fun to see him act crazy to find out who's telling the truth.
