Hope its not another race-baiting movie!!!

Last yr in 2013,we had 4 movies which potrayed racialism and how blacks were illtreated.....namely
Butler
12 yrs a slave
42
Fruitvale Station

Hope the producers dont take that "Black racism" is the "it" thing now and add a backstory of how Gabby grew up in poverty and prejudice...Maybe few scenes where white athletes mock her race when actually in reality she grew up in a well-to-do family and entire USA embraced her

* My niece takes gymnastic classes and I know its not at all cheap(damn costly in fact)....U cannot expect a rags to riches story from gymnastics unlike Basketball or Football...

Holy *beep* I've never seen such a poor write-up of movies. You must either be a racist, or a moron, or both. Clearly you're not watching the damn movies.

12 Years a Slave, he was a free man, kidnapped and sold into slavery you twit. It's a historical book that's been around for two hundred years, you can't get the facts right.

Cloud Atlas has one area of slavery, the whipping scene wasn't the evil of white people, it was the bonding moment of two men, who saw a connection in each other.

Spring Breakers, he finds common ground with some girls that enjoy criminal activity. He doesn't prostitute them, he robs places with him.

The Butler is another true story about a man's life, much like Twelve years a slave. It follows the life a Butler for the white house. He doesn't make race an issue even while the whole world is turning upside down with the civil rights act.

In the Purge, they want to give over the guy, but he's hiding in the house. They're not protecting him. They just can't find him.

It's up to Historical debate as to whether slavery was the main focus of the Civil War. It does however clearly cover the correct passage of the bill.

Olympus Has Fallen, the president preserves the lives of those working for him, certain that no matter what they do, they won't torture the code from him. They don't, they crack the code. White House Down is a comedy more than an action film, and he's painted as far less authoritative, and less presidential.

But hey, I guess if they have black people in it that aren't robbing or raping, then clearly, they're praising all black people, and it's race baiting. You're a fool and a moron. Please, watch movies before you try to write a synopsis.

I think it's very interesting that you would call movies that depict actual history, that present things as they actually happened "race-baiting." Is it that you don't want to be told about the atrocities visited upon blacks in America? Is it that you don't want to accept historical facts? Well, I'm sorry that the truth is so distasteful and inconvenient for you, but you can't bury your head in the sand and ignore it. And you certainly shouldn't expect other people to just "get over it" and forget that these things ever happened just because you don't want to deal with it.

There have been many films made about the Jewish Holocaust during WWII. Do you consider these films to be "race-baiting?" Are you over on the Schindler's List board complaining that the film "race-baits?"

Sister, when I've raised hell, you'll know it!

I'm sorry but racism and prejudice ness still exists and other minorities not just black people experience it. This post just reaffirms it based on its content. This movie is about Gabby experience as an Olympian. If she experienced racism or adversity, then that is an issue that will be addressed in the movie as it is addressed in all biographic movies. This movie is not however about slavery but it will address other people prejudice ness. So don't blame the media or Gabby, blame the people who keep perpetuating or denying that it exists, such as this post .

Are you kidding me? Of all the movies made in 2013 a small percentage of them were about race. And a lot of the times the only way minority actors can get roles are if they are in those types of movies but anyway........

You cant ignore history just because it makes you uncomfortable.

Do you know anything about her cause her family was nowhere near well to do

"Just cause you can't beat 'em, don't mean you should join 'em."

Agreed! The OP should have done research before posting some flip comment about her being from a well to do family. Not all gymnasts are from well to do families anyway, it does cost a lot and I remember one gymnast from a past Olympics, can't remember which, saying how her parents worked hard at two jobs just to get her through gymnastics.

"Don't they know they're making love to one already dead?!"

what a sad and ignorant thread...

It weakens us to not give our enemies the respect they deserve...

fter several interviews with the coach and every teammate that would talk to The New York Times, not one person could recall one racist remark or action.

What?! People didn't admit to being racist? I find that hard to believe. Normally racist people flock to the cameras to admit being racist!

OP,you're an idiot----Douglas didn't grow up in some rich family, and her mother had to make some major sacrifices in order for her to try and make it as a gymnast. And, no not everyone embraced her, as you put it, when she won, there was at least one stupid comment on the net by some idiot claiming that her smile looked fake,or whatever, and then some black people had the nerve to complain about how her hair looked---as it one's hair is supposed to look perfect after flip-flopping and swinging over bars. . Some white people can't stand to see a black person make it in life, no matter how damn hard they worked to get there. Fck them----I liked the fact that she won, period, and had to work damn hard to get to that point.

Another thing---if you don't like seeing movies about black people and the issues we have to deal with in this country, then don't watch them. Racism is a reality black people have ALWAYS had to deal with (and still do.) Nobody is going to stop making movies about it and making movies about just because YOU don't want to hear about it. Now shut the hell up and quit your stupid white privileged whining.
