David Leitch is directing Deadpool 2

It looks like Deadpool 2 is next in a parade of X-Men movies to move from development and into production as 20th Century Fox signs on David Leitch (stunt director of V For Vendetta and John Wick) to direct.

It's a phenomenal choice, he's a top tier director who focuses on getting great cinematography (pay attention, McMCU) and is highly skilled both on the technical end of film-making and in getting great performances from his actors. In short he's an all-around good director. Couple that with the tremendously good writing team for Deadpool 2 and we're in for a sure fire action/comedy cinematic treat!

Great directing choices lately for the X-Men movies, much better than anything else going for comic book movies by any other studio, by miles and miles of open road. Can't wait to see the results! Now the only upcoming X-Men movie without a director is X-Men 7, but that movie has just started development so I wouldn't expect to hear anything for a few months (unless they have someone already specifically in mind for it, which they very well may since Bryan Singer announced a few years ago that X-Men Apocalypse would be his last).

A little reminder that Deadpool 2's director's new movie comes out tonight, John Wick 2! I can't wait to see it, it looks amazing, pure top notch production. John Wick 2, Logan and Trainspotting 2 all coming out in the next few weeks, it's like Christmas 2: The Sequel! 

Gonna correct you there. Josh Boone is directing X-men 7. It's subtitled The New Mutants.

The New Mutants is it's own thing, a trilogy of films created and directed by Josh Boone. Yes they will interconnect with the X-Men, but they are not the core X-Men films. X-Men 7 is in pre-production right now and will shoot right after The New Mutants concludes, is apparently titled X-Men Supernova.

X-men: The New Mutants, sir. Or would this be the 8th X-men movie? Because X-men Origins: Wolverine... Like all the movies before it, that movie had quite a bit of X-men (team not world) as side characters.

David Leitch did not direct V for Vendetta. So far, he's only co-directed John Wick. We'll have to wait until July to find out if he's any good on his own.

Whoops, I meant stunt director. Changed.

reply

After seeing John Wick 2, I am seriously happy about this guy taking over for Miller.

reply

Aaaaah glad to hear that it's good! I'm seeing it tomorrow, should be a good appetizer for Logan in a few weeks and a preview of what cinematic style we're likely to get for Deadpool 2.

reply

Even though he was only marginally involved in the second one?

reply

David Leitch directed John Wick, not John Wick 2. Second one is better.

reply

The style created by Leitch is still there.
