Nick

I think the last episode where Nick did the best mentoring he could ever do! He stepped away and let the team work. If you don't remember, Tim Gunn does this all the time on PR. He lets them make their own noose to hang by or the team works it out and creates something winning!

Nick needs to remember that he's not the teacher in this situation. When teaching, you can take the reins and the students can learn, whereas with mentoring, he needs to trust. I think his team was expecting him to not back them up and they created something that they could defend without his help.

I know that I would rather be proud of my work on my own rather than use my mentor as a crutch and the creativity.

I don't really agree. Nick needs to find a happy medium between taking over for the team and doing nothing for the team. Tim Gunn is a master at this, and I think Nick still has a lot to learn. Thankfully his team got it together in the end and did well, but Nick pretty much had nothing to do with it. Why even have a mentor if the mentor gives no input at all? I hope Nick will find the right balance so he can truly help his team with his experience.

Very true.. Unfortunately , I think he'll always want to take over the project or back out completely. Sucks for his team...

Per Nick's blog, the editors removed footage of him actually—and properly—mentoring his team beyond leaving them to work things out for themselves, but I guess the producers wanted to make it look as if his team didn't need him with Oscar there. Nick is actually evolving quite nicely and certainly seems to be more flexible and adaptable than Mondo and Anya.

Yeah, and I thought it would be jarring to go from opposite ends of the spectrum. I think you're right about him not learning a lesson. I know that's what I would have done. Steampunk is such an unique style and so many people seemed lost with it.
