PR alums you would rather see as mentors

(Or folks you hope to see as mentors if they decide to do this show again.)

Nick, as heavy-handed as he is, is OK to me. But instead of Mondo and Anya, I would have rather seen folks like Rami, Chris March (a *wealth* of knowledge he has, not just from PR but from his many years in the industry), Laura Bennett, or Daniel Vosovic. Some of those folks from the 'classic' PR years. LOL

Oh dear Lord not the "I'm better than everyone because I'm a New Yorker" Laura Bennet.

Austin Scarlett... still thinking.

I agree with all of yours except Laura, just because I was never a fan of hers and don't know that I could sit through a whole season of her. It's hard to say because the first and pretty much only person to come to mind when I think of mentoring is Nick, because I know he was (still is?) a teacher and I always liked reading his blogs about the seasons, he always had great insight. I'd love to see Christian Soriano but he doesn't need a show like this, he's doing just fine on his own. Maybe Anthony Ryan, I love him and I think his personality would be good for mentoring.

I personally love Seth Aaron, Michael Costello, Dmitri, Christopher, Austin Scarlett, but I don't know about any of them or anyone else that will come to mind being a mentor. That's why I'm not really a fan of this show, I think, because even though I liked (used to, but not after this week's episode) Mondo, I don't think he's a mentor. He's a designer. Anya forget it, I've never liked her.

I kind of understand why Nick is the way he is: he's a teacher, and if memory serves me, he specifically teaches a lot of beginning classes, pattern making courses, etc. So he's used to showing people exactly how things are done. He's also very opinionated. And speaking as somebody who is both very opinionated AND a teacher, I get his predicament; it took me a while to learn that instead of showing students how *I* would do it or really forcing my hand, it would be more beneficial to the student if I just asked them their opinion and helped them when they were truly confused.

Based on their personalities, I think Austin Scarlett, Mychael Knight, Korto Momolu, Stella Zotis, and Seth Aaron Anderson would be some good choices.

I'd add Christian Siriano because I think he's super-talented, but I don't know if he'd have time, being the most successful PR designer (as far as I know).

You're a sexual Disneyland.

Ken - The designers need to be in fear and he's much better at going on a rant than the current 3.

reply

Lol, they'd definitely be in fear with his scary ass! I don't want to see him brought back in any way though!

reply

i love Chris march. i also like nick. he takes his mentor job seriously. i guess he needed to get out of the teaching mode because its a tv show, and apparently the judges want crappy clothes they can make snide remarks about.

reply

I would pick non divaesque ones to do mentoring. Chris March, Rami, Actually Andre is a little diva sometimes but he is still soft so maybe him.

reply

I love Nick. I always have. I personally think he's the best mentor.

Rather than the other two, I would have chosen Austin Scarlett and Daniel Esquival.

reply

Santino would be excellent, Peach would be good, for sure Chris March, Rami, Uli would be very kind to her mentees. Nick is probably the very best. Christian S. would be a horror, worse than Anya and Mondo (and that is saying something..) The current series is a disaster. I didn't realize Mondo was such a scuzz. Yikes. Didn't he learn anything at all from Tim's advice when he was a designer? He isn't as smart as I thought he was. I don't know if I will continue watching after Natalia's dirty treatment. When Tim is on the regular P.R., he is NEVER unkind to any of the designers, even the really crazy frantic ones.

reply

I have enjoyed Chris March and his work from the moment he sighed to us "Ah, youth" in response to one of Christian Serrano's eccentricities. In the series he had a few years ago, he seemed to be a good mentor to his younger employees, and he would, in theory, I think, be a lovely choice for a mentor in a legitimate setting.

But I wouldn't want him in this one. I think no opportunity to emphasize the worst of him would be wasted, just as has happened with Tim (and I saw hints of this aspect to Tim in the most recent PR reunion, so I wasn't so much surprised as disappointed).

reply

Santino, Austin, and Michelle.

Chris March, Daniel Vosovic, Jay and Christian Siriano leap to mind. Rami would be fine, too.
