Why'd he kill her at the end?

I just saw it today and have the same question! I thought he was healed at last

I think he did the same thing his father did.

To Joe, she was a shadow of Joe's "mother figure" who was killed off in Joe's past. So Joe had the impulse to kill her off. Personally...I think it's a cheap shot at an ending with a twist.
