Best anime of 2014

2014 was a year for many great animes, and unlike 2013 and 2015 many can argue that there wasn't a best anime, that it's just personal preference. This is true to a degree, however if an anime is voted by you the fans to an extent the winner becomes clear, because who would vote for crappy anime? That's because fans vote for what they think is good, despite what critics say, if their opinion becomes outnumbered then their opinion becomes just that, their opinion. 2013 and 2015 had clear winners with Attack on Titan for 2013 and One Punch Man for 2015. But what about 2014? Well according to what was voted from the fans here http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/survey/505/result and this website, Parasyte was the winner. I agree with the fans on this, although my personal favorite was The Seven Deadly Sins. As for One Punch Man, in my opinion it didn't live up to the hype, I thought the plot was weak and it was just mindless action just to appease the kids, when you have shows like Stardust Crusaders that does the same thing with more thought process by being clever and unique, I fail to understand OPM hype. Despite my thoughts, it was the best anime of 2015 as voted by fans.

One Punch Man is a comedy/action series that pokes fun at standard shonen tropes. Lead character is bald, unlike standard spiky haired heroes. He can defeat enemies with a single punch as opposed to the endlessly drawn out battles in most anime. The ultra-badass sidekick that never wins battles, like piccolo or vegeta? That's played up with Genos. Even the fact that shonen leads sometimes get put out of commission so other characters can shine is played with in the episode where saitama gets "stuck" in the ground, but was actually just relaxing. It's a brilliant jab at shonen action anime with great comedy and awesome action.

I'm not saying you have to like it, but that's the appeal. Personally, it's my favorite anime to come out in a long time.
