Just turn off the computer...

All the screaming and crying about not being able to unfriend her and not being able to delete her facebook account. Just turn off the damn computer.

reply

Wouldn't work. Because turning off a computer doesn't erase your facebook account and all the ghost videos being posted on it without your permission

reply

I didn't mean that would delete the videos or her account, but she just kept checking fb obsessively and then getting upset about it. Just turn off the computer.

Also, this film was terrible.

reply

No, it was great. I notice people like to rant on new horror now.

And she kept checking FB because she seem Marina was putting up more and more things. SHe was curious as to what else horrible Marina was doing and that was because Marina was sending her phone messages to, reminding her to check her facebook account out.

reply

OP never said anything about any other films in this genre. So you're just putting words in their mouth based on assumptions that have no basis in reality.

What I've noticed is that IMDB is full of you neckbeard, fanboys that take it personally any time someone critizes a film you like, no matter how terrible it was.

And this movie was terrible.

I resent the implication of that. I like plenty of new horror, I have seen a lot of fantastic new horror recently. This wasn't one of them, sorry. Each to their own.

Some really good horror from the last decade:

It Follows
Resolution
[REC]
The Witch
Absentia
February
The House of the Devil
The Innkeepers

reply

The VVitch is horrible! ... as was Friend Request. That being said I haven't seen any of the other films that you feel are "really good."

reply

Why did you hate The Witch so much? I'm genuinely interested to know. I found it atmospheric to the point of oppressive, it was brave and slow-build menacing and beautifully shot. I hate how some mainstream horrors just rely on cheap shocks and gore, and I thought The Witch was such a refeshing change of pace. That, and the acting was great.

reply

Maybe I'll like it more upon a 2nd viewing. I mostly don't like movies about witches but generally enjoy horror. Also I watched It Follows after a friend also recommended it. That was fantastic! I have to look over your other recommendations.

reply

Only [REC] and The Witch among these movies were obviously better than Unfriend IMO. The other six are in the same level as Unfriend.

reply

It Follows isnt even in the same league as others.

Turning off the computer wouldn't stop her real life friends from seeing what the ghost posted and reacting to it. No matter how little she looked, she would be painted as this terrible person.

Turning off the computer also would not stop the ghost from murdering her friends and family.

Turning off the computer wouldn't have stopped the phone badgering and interactions face to face

The only difference turning off the computer would have made is that she would not have watched the assassination of her online reputation, rather seeing it only in real life. She would have experienced all of it without knowing why it was happening until a friend told her about it or an ex friend had at her about it.

The only thing that would have stopped this from happening is if she didn't delete the friend. The crazy girl had zero friends, not even depressed goths and emos, so it probably would have happened even if she just declined the friend request. No matter what, the crazy girl probably would have pursued her another way and the same thing would have happened through another means than facebook, including if she didn't have a computer.

reply

Exactly. She was an obsessed, jealous stalker that barely knew her and took advantage of her kindness. She would've found any means of destroying her life regardless. She even tried canceling her fb account on the phone with the company and they wouldn't do it

reply

I am annoyed by the "turn off the computer" response to serious stalking. I watched a friend go through this and "turn off the computer" did nothing to help him.

I don't think FB could have cancelled it. By then the ghost had taken control of it, did what she did with the code, etc. I'd think FB would hit the same error.

reply

* slow claps * you missed the point
did you even finish the movie?

reply

Wow, some people get so rude and angry because someone has a different opinion.

Be kinder.

Forgive me for saying but the moral was you cannot escape the power of technology.

They at points turned the computer off but didn't stop the killing. So she checked for more clues. And when the computers turned off they moved on to the phone then the printer then the life support machine or even a mirror or cctv. Wasn't all about laptops..

Average horror reminded me of an updated ring movie.

reply

Yeah I just got frustrated and so bored with the whole thing. Average is the best way to describe it, you're right. Ringu was waaayy better IMO.

I have 0 friends.

Also, watch Videodrome instead.

reply

Yeah that wouldn't work though would it.

reply

"Just turn off the computer..."

That works even better in real life as well. Real world is GOOD.

reply

Turn off real world as well?
