Can anyone refresh my memory of the Newman debacle from back in the day?

I had been posting on the Saw boards on-and-off from Saw II, and someone reminded me of the Newman... "situation" a while back.

I swear to god, I know I saw it all myself, but I've either repressed those memories or just killed enough braincells in the ensuing years to not remember what the hell happened outside of it being hilarious and possibly very annoying, haha.

What exactly happened?

From what I can remember, I *think* he was a troll. All I remember was that everyone hated him for some reason, and he always had some smart ass remark to make on every post. I don't know if he was a troll or an actual *beep* but either way he was definitely one of the most known members on the Saw boards.

That sounds about right.

If I recall, didn't Newman also make a bunch of dummy accounts with names similar to legitimate users, leading to a witch-hunt? Or am I thinking about some other message board situation?

I also seem to recall "Newman" becoming just a term that was thrown at anyone who was trolling, hating or being generally negative. But again... I could be wrong. It was at least five years ago and most of the old threads have been deleted.

Does anybody know why old threads are deleted? It would be so much fun to re-read them, I came back to IMDb after a long pause and suddenly they weren't there anymore.

IMDb cleans up the database from time to time.
