Vegan and malnutrition
There are perfectly adequate ways to raise a child as a vegan. I really hope the audience doesn't see veganism as the same thing as child abuse :(

shareDr. Bill himself told Jude so at that scene.
"There's nothing wrong with that"
The doctor didn't say that in response to the baby eating a vegan diet. He said, if the baby wasn't growing, he wasn't getting what he needed and that they should consult a nutritionist.
Jude deflected at first when the doctor asked "What does he eat?" He replied "We're vegetarians." Then the doctor said there was nothing wrong with that specifically, as they're full-grown adults. He then repeated "But what does he eat?"
Regardless of her choice in diet, her refusal to seek any medical advice and seeking to undermine any medical measures to keep her son nutritionally healthy and growing was the child abuse. It was not particularly what she chose to feed her child. It seems to me that it wasnt her diet or however you want to label her diet, but that she had an eating disorder or a disorder about certain foods that included her child. She was just sick.
