the fantasy in this film was not the Devil statue granting wishes but the fact that Max and Travis had absolutely no game. One unassuming and balding and the other fat and ignorant and yet they both landed close to a half dozen very fine women including Travis getting two at a time... I call bullsh!t on this one....
You missed a point of this movie--that some people can look beyond looks to the heart. Max had a big heart as demonstrated by his concern for Evelyn after she OD'd on the liquor. And, of course, the fact that he was willing to be miserable in his relationship with Evelyn just to avoid hurting her.
That's what Olivia saw in Max as well.
A message from this flick is to look deeper than looks. Max was a genuinely good guy.
I agree, however, concerning Travis, but I have to consider the nature of those women who were with him. They weren't exactly pillars of the community.
This was the biggest stretch of the movie. Two losers have the hottest women in Hollywood throwing themselves at them. THAT should be the work of a magical spell, forget reanimating the dead.
