Can someone explain to me THIS about the ending?

What I'm trying to figure out is why Nate and company left all of the treasure and never went back for it.

Like, okay, the ship explodes (all that flammable gold, I guess) and presumably sinks as the cavern caves in. Fine.

But it's not like it vanished through a wormhole. They know exactly where it is. And hey, Nate is now even co-owner of an underwater salvage company.

So...why does no one ever go back to salvage the treasure? Especially since Sam was so obsessed with it?

Is there something that I missed? Some reason why this could not be done?

When you play the epilogue,Nate and Elena's daughter Cassie comes across a photo of Nate, Elena and Sully sitting on a heap of treasure. I had assumed this was Avery's treasure that they had later went and retrieved., but then again, I could be wrong

I just learned how to use the "Spoiler" button...

That photo was taken during Uncharted 1, at the end of the first game when Nathan and Elena are about to kiss when Sully shows up with the treasure. In Uncharted 4, Nate first looks at the photo in his attic during chapter 4 "A Normal Life" when he is reminiscing about past adventures.

Seems like a convenient way to end on an "emotional" place without really making a lot of logic.
