The relationship between Mark and Donnie

How is it?

I was watching 2 episodes last night, and thinking the same thing.

They're together occasionally on the show. I distinctly recall the two of them playing basketball on one of the episodes.

They're not together much, though, but that could be explained by the fact that Mark is shooting and promoting movies all over the world most of the time, and Donnie is shooting a tv show in NY. It could also be explained by the fact that Wahlburgers is a show about the restaurant, and thus focuses primarily on Paul (and Alma) and the sibling's relationship with them, not each other.

That being said... you never know. They do talk about being highly competitive, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if Mark's monumental success didn't bug Donnie a bit.

I did notice that Mark wasn't at Donnie's wedding- which, again, is most likely a scheduling conflict, but, there also wasn't the obligatory 'wish I could be there' phone call from Mark (that he does when he misses an important event for Paul).

If I had to bet, based on their interactions with Paul, both get along with Paul better than each other, but I wouldn't necessarily bet on there actually being any bad blood between them.

Donnie lives in NJ or did until that chicago move, and works in NYC.
Mark lives in California, but I assume is out of the country a lot to film.

The explanation given as to why Mark wasn't at Donnie's wedding was because the wedding was on one of Mark's daughters birthday, which seems a little odd.
If they were close I doubt I would plan my wedding on my niece's birthday, and then what better way to celebrate your birthday but at a large wedding.

And I've actually heard that it wasn't the day of her birthday, but, rather, the day of her birthday party, which is a bit odder.

I don't know how much stock I put in them, but there's rumors floating around that the family doesn't like Jenny- especially Mark's wife. Theoretically, this could fall down to Mark doing what his wife tells him to do, and not necessarily bad blood between the brothers. Or maybe there is some kind of beef between the two. The last time I posted about this was a year ago, and I'm still in pretty much the same place- leaning towards no bad blood, but definitely not certain. Perhaps I'm a bit closer to a toss up. Donnie made such a huge deal about Alma showing up to the wedding. When I saw it, it didn't register a great deal, but now that I know that the family might have had/ might be having issues with Jenny, Donnie's reaction to seeing his Mom makes a LOT more sense. In other words, it was less a "I'm SO happy to see you" reaction and more of a "I'm so grateful that you're giving Jenny a chance."

Once you put it in that context, the Alma/Donnie pre-wedding interaction makes a heck of a lot more sense.

That's a good question. The episode where they played basketball together probably was the only one I've ever seen of them together. They seemed to get along, BUT now that I think about it, they didn't really talk a lot to each other. They more played off each other's taunting to Paul. When Paul complains to Donnie about Mark, Donnie would laugh and say, "Well that's Mark for ya" basically or Donnie would say, "Better do it cuz Mark is the biggest investor, blah blah blah" but he wouldn't have anything positive to say about him. He always talks openly about his other brothers like Jim and Bob though which is quite odd. And it's funny cuz if it weren't for Donnie, Mark would be nothing. Donnie used all his connections through the NKOTB to get Mark signed and wrote and produced both of Mark's albums. You'd think Mark would be more grateful. I do believe they were extremely close when they were younger though, being the youngest two and seeing ALL the pix of them together on Wahlburgers and the interviews Donnie did with Mark to support the Funky Bunch's promotions. And Donnie did back up Mark a LOT when they were growing up. Whenever Mark would get into trouble, Donnie fought whoever was getting in his face. Still it's a mystery yeah, maybe the producers of Donnie Loves Jenny forgot to broadcast the "Sorry I couldn't make it phone call" I don't know. Maybe they didn't think about it. I do know that though Donnie is rich, Mark is at least 4-5 times richer now. It's sad but Donnie is the one who made it all happen. I used to think Donnie had a huge ego but I know he's probably my favorite one. He's got homes in NJ, Boston, and Chicago now. that's how he roll! hehe.
