I'm getting a little bit of a Kathy Griffin kind of vibe, but, unlike Kathy, who uses her Mother's alcoholism as a comedic prop, the Wahlberg's probably steer clear of the topic out of respect for the dead.

I'm really pushing the conjecture envelope pretty far here, but I'd go as far as to say that this isn't just teetotaling kids of an alcoholic parent. I think one or two might abstain publicly, but may imbibe in private.

Maybe. Whatever is going on, it feels like they're avoiding something- and not just the topic of their father's alcoholism, but their own drinking habits as well. If they are, I think by purposely avoiding it, it actually gives it greater importance. Between avoiding painful topics and using them for comedy, I think Kathy is the slightly healthier approach- although neither is probably all that ideal.

As I said, though, this is just wild conjecture.
