The Devil would rejoice in making a believer renounce his faith, he would take pleasure in instilling doubts in the faith of a strong believer, like a priest.

As I said, atheists are possessed to torment the saints. As my brother and I became religious my once occasional church going father declared himself an atheist. After that he openly mocked religion and blasphemed religious icons. I have no doubt that his demeanor was possession to torment us.
