Surprisingly balanced in many respects although not all but 7/10

I would figure this is the kind of movie made to appeal to the women of today in India. I think it was justifiably a hit as it attempted to balance a lot of things including some of the good points of a conservative upbringing - in my very own, but sadly polluted and increasingly nasty and dangerous Dilli Shahar - and many of the bad, especially when it comes to marriage.

Having seen the frustration my own elder sister had to experience due to having a 'good Hindu boy' NRI engineer forced upon her - before thankfully finding someone on her own who also lived in Delhi - I am happy that such a movie was made and received well.

As a guy though, I feel a lot of the movies in Bollywood these days (around the world too) seem to despise the very notion of Indian guys who keep to themselves. I don't think it's fair that it's a tag all of us should wear due to the stupid behaviour of a few. And it is a few as the media has only (rightfully) become more outspoken since the horrific events of December 16, 2012. But like everything in India - from the stifling economic policies prior to 1991, to how liberalization itself was first executed, to the crass consumerism of today - things just go to extremes.

Which brings me to some gripes from the movie itself. The acting is ham-fisted, there are songs - this is a personal gripes as I dislike even Hollywood musicals, seriously, my favourite part in Singing In the Rain has ZERO music in it - and the whole 'modern India' spiel that aids in the marketing of pretty much everything from phones to cars in this country these days. And of course the whole 'India is best' line being used in foreign locations. But I will concede that these foreign locations are seen in a different light than most viewers would expect.

But good intentions, execution is good in key parts and a predictable but good ending. 7/10
