Seriously! What is that rating!!??

Was just going through IMDB and I just saw the rating. Now I saw the movie long back but hardly any of it stayed with me till now. I only remember that it was sloppy and full of cliches. There are a lot of overrated Bollywood movies in here but 8.6 for this movie??

reply

True. It's a nice movie but kind of overrated. Not very family friendly either. The first half was brilliant but the second half was a bit of a drag. Gave it an 8.

not every film needs to be family friendly and that goes for Indian films as well

reply

Why should it be family friendly?

Absolutely. What a horrendous film. English Vinglish was so much better.

reply

Well... this is what happens if there are too many Indian users in IMDB. They think their movies are that good. Next time IMDB should reconsider rating for Bollywood movies.

reply

I think you'll find that Bollywood films get good ratings and bad ratings - just like EVERY genre of film. Maybe pay IMDB's bottom 100 for reference. Lots of Bollywood films there too. People have different tastes and expectations for movies so saying that Bollywood films should be rated differently because you find them inferior or whatever is just as silly as someone voting 10 for a film just because it's a Bollywood film.

I actually really enjoyed this movie and thought it was a much needed movie for a country where women still see their primary life goal as getting married.

Exactly the reason why I saw the movie expecting it to be path breaking in that matter and I would gladly accept the rating if it was. But it was no where near that and on top of it was full of cliches and hardly inspiring. It's my personal opinion though & others may have had better opinion of the movie but there are tons of other movies in different languages of India which are in an another league altogether. (example English Vinglish as pointed out by somebody).

All I'm saying is stop rating it so high just because you saw this one movie of bollywood and think that this is the first time somebody has done it.

English Vinglish is an entirely different movie relating to an entirely different situation. In this film the protagonist is young, middle class, conservative ... The kind of girl who would think that marriage would be the sole purpose of her life and a base for her future identity. Instead she finds her indentity in her own individuality and realises she doesn't need a man...well not one who treats her that badly.
In English vinglish the issue isn't as drastic as being dumped on the eve of your wedding. She's married but not respected so the film depicts her journey to find that respect. She doesn't want out of the relationship but instead she finds a way to make it work on her terms.
Queen has an important message about standing on your own two feet ...something more indian girls should strive and fight for.
Both films are good and as you say your lack of enthusiasm for this film is your opinion which you're entitled to. In my opinion the main difference between the films is that in Queen the protagonist is recovering from a major life event (most people would read it as a crisis), whereas in English Vinglish she takes action for accumulated disrespect. The journeys are very different which is why I don't see the films as comparable...but I rate them both very highly.

I was at no point comparing those two films, lets be clear on that.
What I'm saying is this, I was ok with the director till the lead character goes to her honeymoon alone and all the trouble she faces for the first few days but then was the moment where the he would have achieved greatness by depicting her journey of finding her own individuality (as you have said) in a manner which is much more convincing. Instead he goes on this road of never ending cliches which drags films standard below par in my opinion.
I don't hate this movie but I'm only disappointed. May be, as I'm from South India, I didn't connect well with the second part.

big talk!your name tells more about your rating capability!maybe you are a shahrukh fan....!

reply

What does my name has to do with my rating, bozo? At least I gave an opinion which is shared by many not passing on judgement based on their names! and you are way off in your guess of me being some khan fan.

Anyways it was an opinion posted way back when it was being talked as a path breaking cinema which it wasn't.

reply

It is perhaps the best bollywood film of 2014 but yeah, Indians are so good at over rating their movies. It surely doesn't deserve a rating of 8.5!

Uncle aa gaye uncle aa gaye

reply

Yeah I honestly found it cringe inducing and corny. But I did like the message of the movie and it was better than the typical bollywood movie.

reply

it was a funny, easy to watch and very sweet movie.it's not overrated.

reply

not to compare it with other great western films, but compared to the *beep* movies bwood churns out every week, it was a refreshing coming of age movie with good acting and interesting cast.

reply

The moment you said that you are from Southern India and hence you could not connect with the movie, there itself I understood the outrage here. The ego about South and North is the problem here.Once people get their heads out of dirt then this kind of indifference would not exist.Another point you stated about "better movies in other indian languages"(by which you are probably hinting at your own language among the 5 southern states). To conclude I will leave it to your opinion as you are entitled to it, but this movie is way better than the stupid song and dance *beep* or villains and heroes flying in air defying gravity and actress exposing their navel and all that kind of crap that usually comes out.

Note: Try to come out of your bubble of south india kindly if possible..! :)

reply

Came out of that bubble long time ago and some of my favorite Indian movies are from Bollywood. May be you need to get your own head out of dirt and see the actual movies made in other languages of the country and not generalize them based on typical mass masaala movie that some of you guys would gladly gobble up if some graphics are thrown in.
