Smith does such a terrible job with the accent...
it's almost comical . 10X worse than Leonardo's deep southern accent in Django Unchained.
Phase 2: Ant-Man +-500M, Thor:The Dark World 645M. Profit: Ant-Man +-240M, Thor 2 +- 300M

Both of those were very accurate.
shareI thought it was another star wars sequel because he sounds like jar jar binks in this movie

I find Oscar Bait infinitely more interesting than ticket bait
He was told to make his version of it. Not mimic him.

pls shut up. don't bash accents just because it isn't natural for them. anytime an American takes a role with a different accent you should be happy. brits doing American accents is more annoying than anything. so go complain on their boards. no more of this though.
shareAgree that the attempt of a Nigerian accent is laughable bordering on pitiful. Think TPTB screwed up in a number of ways in production/marketing:
1. why not have a real African actor portraying the doc? WS has been box office poison in his last 3 movies. This project need not depend on a [former] A-list actor to carry it. A relatively unknown - but more convincing - actor would be better suited. I believe that the target audience is interested in the story, not in WS.
2. the choice of including "Tell de tooth!" line in the trailer. That alone made me decide not to pay good $ to watch this.

The truth is, it probably took an A-list actor to even get this film made at all. I've heard Nigerians speak in real life, and African folks in general, and Smith actually did a pretty good job, considering that accents are difficult to do anyway, and not every actor can do one accurately. Obviously you don't know what an African accent sound like, to even make a statement like that. He actually gave a pretty good performance, so I don't get why people are slamming him. This film actually made the majority of its budget back, so I would hardly call it a flop. Smith's last film, which I really liked---FOCUS---was also a big hit last summer.
He wasn't doing a Nigerian accent. He had mimicked Dr Omolu but he changed it because stupid Europeans and Americans would require subtitles. Check out the documentary he's in.

Thank you oxomus - you said it. He would have been too hard to understand otherwise.
sharewhy not have a real African actor portraying the doc?
Because this was supposed to be Will Smith's big Oscar winning picture, as evident when his wife decided they would both boycott the Oscars when he wasn't, er, I mean no black actors were nominated.
There's always got to be that one guy criticizing the accent...
Here's the rub, most Americans don't know anyone from Nigeria, and don't know the difference, so just STFU.
It was actually very good. But no one thought you knew what you were talking about.
