I don't believe a word. Non story.

I want to be paid several million a year to bang my head. Utter bullcrap.

reply

Doesn't matter if it is real or fake.

If it's real, so what. Put a disclaimer so every player knows, and they will still choose the millions of dollars to play football.

Just like boxers will take millions of dollars to take blows to.the head. Just like hockey players will get checked on the ice and get into fist fights. Just like rugby players will smash heads without helmets. Etc.

I suggest you both watch League of Denial - an incredible documentary that will show you what the NFL has done to cover this up in order to make their billions, chew the players up and spit them out, affecting not only their lives but the lives of their family and friends (formerly kind, easygoing men becoming raging abusers (or murderers) due to this brain injury). It's not a coincidence that so many football players are in the news for suddenly killing themselves, loved ones, or random strangers...

You can watch it for free here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/league-of-denial/

EXACTLY, it's like a Boxer saying, 'you mean getting punched in the head is bad for me? Ummm, duh, why didn't anyone tell me? '

Thats pretty ignorant. I wasn't sure either, until I actually googled Mike Websters hall of fame speech on youtube. and then even more telling was some interview he did, its about 1 minute long, and he couldn't even explain 1 thing, his brain jumped around to about 4 different topics in 1 minute, he couldn't even answer 1 question to the interviewer and said he felt "tired" and then in the same clip another former player is asked to repeat a set of numbers...like a 6 year old can do...and he couldn't do it...then months of the year...January, February...June...He skipped 4 months and could not even tell you the months of the year. Hes staring like he has no idea what is happening in his brain and can't even repeat back the months of the year to the doctor. Watch the @^@^$ video. Learn something.

Well I am not denying that there are cases where players of sports are damaged in this way, not at all. But hey, its like a fireman or a steeplejack, there are known risks associated with certain professions. Only a movie about a man repairing roof falling off aint that sexy. Football players, boxers, all get head pummelled throughout their careers - sadly, and its the law of averages, a few will suffer this sort of permanent injury. Fact of life.

A few? Out of 91 NFL players tested for CTE postmortem, 87 had it. 96% is a little more than a few.

I think you missed the point about the movie or the doctor's intentions. His aim was not to ban American football, but merely to INFORM the players and the public of the risks involved.

The NFL was denying any link between American football and brain trauma, which was obviously untrue. Players and family members were not aware.

Now at least if they still decide to keep playing, they are making an INFORMED decision. That's all the doctor wanted.

All very well for you grown up coach potatoes with an important sporting schedule to keep to.
A different matter for the parents of a 13 year old boy who appears to be gifted at various ball sports. "Lets see, what should we encourage him to really try at"? What do his parents do? Research what current contracts pay the greatest? "When he's thirty five and has 40 million in the bank we can afford the full time care to have him spoon fed and his diapers changed, win, win".
Its not about an adults choices, the supreme sportsman is being moulded when he is a child.
